But first... Coffee

My custom coffee area - I adore my selection of Spanish tiles.

I love coffee, some of my friends love tea. This little luxury is an instant mood booster that perks you up.

There is nothing better than to be able to enjoy a freshly brewed coffee on the weekend and I am lucky to have a magnificent coffee machine right outside my kitchen window sitting on a custom made cabinet with stainless steel legs and wrapped in blue and white Spanish tiles complete with a bar fridge.

When designing a kitchen or re organising the space, I like to create an organized, smart coffee and tea station.

Whether you're a die-hard coffee addict or a lover of tea, almost everyone likes a warm drink either daily or at least occasionally on relaxing weekends or when you have friends over or for those that are simply working from home.  I love a strong Mocha first thing in the morning, and my husband always finishes the day with a beautiful cup of green tea.  Either way, having all the necessary drink supplies and tools in one spot so you don't have to search or go back and forth to different cabinets makes life simpler.

You may or may not have room to display them on the counter – so consider grouping all the necessities into a top drawer, or an overhead cupboard which looks tidy, organised and all will make things quick in the morning when you are rushing to get out the door.  It is also an inviting space for your guests to stand and help themselves and feel at home.

Keep things simple, clean and organised and immaculately outfitted.

  1. There are some beautifully packaged teas out there, so why not display them.  However, I do like to transfer my sugar and drinking chocolates into permanent pretty containers to sit alongside them.   You can easily use old jars & tins with the addition of some pretty labels as permanent containers.

  2. Place all your teaspoons, strainers, etc together. Keep them in a cup or tin or jar so you don't have to search through the cutlery drawer. If you use honey, lemon or cinnamon, keep them close by too.

  3. Group your best mugs, tea cups and saucers where they are seen together, either hanging on hooks or behind a glass fronted overhead cupboard. Remember not to have too many hanging as they do collect dust, maybe just a couple that you know you’ll use frequently.

  4. A lovely display of interesting teapots or pretty milk jugs that you’ve perhaps collected on display can show your guest just where to look in the kitchen for a mug.

  5. When it comes to kettles, they aren’t always the most attractive thing on the bench, maybe it’s time for an upgrade...

Or, Consider if you are building a new kitchen to incorporate an instant boiling tap.  They can come with hot/cold/and sparkling at your fingertips and a safety switch for the prevention of inquisitive little people.  The tapware is elegant too with either a drip tray or if space is available, a small sink which is perfect for rinsing.

  6. It is very handy to have a sink close by to your tea/coffee station.  Access to water for refilling the jug without having to traipse all across the kitchen.  Also, a stone bench top inlay will guard against spills and hot cup rings.

  7.  A concealed refrigerator drawer or mini fridge hidden behind cabinetry is the ultimate luxury.  Not only to store milk, but also for delicious sweets to pull out to impress your guests or for your own sneaky craving of a little chocolate treat.
